Jorge Engel founded JT Engel Architect in 1982 with a simple belief: every meaningful home begins with understanding the relationship between people and place. Over the decades, that philosophy has guided residences throughout California’s coastal communities, Wine Country, and select destination locations.
While the settings may differ, Jorge’s approach remains remarkably consistent. Each project begins by listening carefully, studying the property, and understanding how clients hope to live, gather, entertain, and experience their surroundings.
The practice has intentionally remained founder-led. Jorge personally directs every commission, maintaining close involvement from the earliest site conversations through construction completion. The result is a more personal, collaborative process and homes that feel distinctly connected to both their owners and their environment.
Today, with design studios in Del Mar and Napa, the firm continues to create thoughtfully crafted residences inspired by landscape, light, lifestyle, and the unique character of each place they inhabit.
While every project is personally led by Jorge Engel, he is supported by a team of trusted and experienced architects, designers, and drafting professionals assembled to meet the unique needs of each project. This collaborative approach provides clients with the depth of expertise and technical resources needed to thoughtfully guide projects from initial concept through construction documentation.

Every project begins the same way: by spending time with both the property and the people who will call it home. I pay attention to the light, the landscape, the views, and the subtle qualities that make a place distinct.
Just as importantly, I listen. I want to understand how my clients live, what inspires them, how they gather with family and friends, and how they hope to experience their home for years to come.
